Animal Encounters

Tiny Zoo offer a number of different animal encounters at a special location at Tathra or within the Eden Visitor Information Centre. All of our animal encounters have been designed to the highest animal welfare standards. With more than 100 animals at Tiny Zoo HQ, this means that we can share our encounters amongst the animals so they have more time to enjoy their everyday enclosure.

Our animal encounters follow our core objectives. One of these is to provide an up-close and personal experiences in a small group setting. No crowds, no zoo queues, and no zoo entry. You will be able to freely talk to our zookeeper or ecologist who will offer you their knowledge and experience during the encounter.

VIP Aussie Wildlife Encounters at Eden for Cruise Ship Arrivals !

The ultimate animal encounter inside the Eden Visitor Information Centre just 50 metres from your cruise ship arrival, this experience is just for you! Yes, its a private encounter for one or two people for 10-15 minutes making you a Wildlife VIP!

Wildlife at the Wharf Summer Sessions!

Australia is home to a unique range of wildlife! “Wildlife at the Wharf” is your chance to learn about some of our incredible wildlife in a 30-40 minute Wildlife Show! You might meet a python, a Tawny frogmouth, or even some of our wonderful insects! While we cant guarantee who you will meet, we can guarantee is it will be fun, interactive and educational. Our qualified and experienced zookeeper or ecologist will share their knowledge of these animals in this unique small group setting. You will be able to touch or even hold each animal, ask questions and take as many photographs as you like.

Birdwatching Tours

Birdwatching is one of the fastest growing outdoor activities enjoyed by millions of people globally as well as in Australia. Australia is home to more than 800 species of birds with most found nowhere else in the world. The NSW Sapphire Coast has nearly 200 different bird species so what birds would you like to see? Using our local knowledge and our experienced ecologists, we will connect you to the birds of the region.

We provide birders three options for our birdwatching experiences:

• Birdwatching and Beers Tour – Welcome to our signature tour. This bespoke experience offers you the best of the Sapphire Coast – nature and food. Limited to a maximum of three guests, you will spend six hours with a local ecologist who has more than 40 years birding experience. After we pick you up from your cruise ship at the Port of Eden or your local accommodation (Tathra, Pambula, Merimbula, Eden), we will spend the morning birdwatching at multiple locations. During the morning, we will partake in an artisan morning tea of yummy baked goodies from Wild Ryes Baking Co, produced in Pambula. Back to birdwatching again, and then to finish, we will drop into one of our favourites for a late lunch like Longstocking Brewery in Pambula, or Wheelers Seafood Restaurant in Merimbula for you to enjoy a locally brewed craft beer and a dozen of the finest Sydney Rock Oysters grown right here on the Sapphire Coast (or other yummy food if oysters aren’t your thing). During your late lunch, you will have the opportunity to have an up-close and personal encounter with a Tawny Frogmouth from our animal encounter team. And at the end, we will get you back to the Port of Eden ready for you to cruise again or your local accommodation. This tour couldn’t get much better!

• Birdwatching for Beginners Workshop – Where to start? What binoculars should I get? How do I identify bird species? How do I learn different bird song? Where can I find birds? What is ethical birdwatching? This is exactly this workshop. These sessions are tailored to beginner and intermediate birdwatchers exploring the early days of this amazing hobby, those looking to improve their birding, or those who just want to go birding in the private setting of Kianinny Bush Cottages. There are so many birds to see at Kianinny! You won’t see them all during our experience so why not book yourself a cottage and stay a few days! • Private Birdwatching Tour – If you want a specialist birding tour, you can book us to guide you around the Sapphire Coast (1/2 day and full day tours available). We will even pick you up and drop you back to your accommodation.
